Fans not been in the Ground - Making a difference

Results wise, all over the place at the moment.

Not just us.


Players must be getting used to us and them not being there.

What you reckon?

did my eyes deceive me or were there seats at west ham with fans faces on saturday- im not sure i got the memo about that? Its so cringey - leeds has got every seat with a fat yorkie bastard gurning away.

I do think there's a difference with the home team/fans around corners and breakaways - not sure i get that we'd have got on the players backs with that performance apart from laughing hystericaly at yarmo's attempts to pretend he can actually play football on saturday...

I think the days of home advantage had gone a few years back with all the modern stadiums. Less atmosphere etc.

No fans suit some teams and some matches.

For us Moyes like to sit back and hit teams on break. It’s more suited to an away team.

If he plays it at home he hasn’t got to worry about the fans getting impatient.

You also now get to see the managers actually manage and what they are really like on the touch line without the fake playing up to the crowd ( Klopp and Jose).

Saturday was the first time I had missed not going to a game. I fancied us to do well and the fans would have been up for it. We may have even sneaked a win with fans there.

i reckon it takes away from a lot of the "presence" of the big clubs. stripped of all the pomp and circumstance that comes with 50k+ supporters, they are just another eleven blokes on the pitch.

On a less flippant note it's more likely to do with the refs feeling less pressure from the crowds. Got a gut feeling refs don't like the likes of our crowd calling decisions and get stubborn when we do.

One of the chief differences this year which is as yet unheeded and little understood is that scarecrows have been bought into the grounds.

Their mute unseeing chocolate button eyes and wonky fucking carrot noses are thought to have made football players thwack the ball harder.

Controversial but I think I makes it a better watch on the tv. I also think VAR works a lot better with no crowds.

VAR ruins football when watching live but in your armchair we all get the benefit of the second and third look and aren’t wondering for 5 mins if we hugged a stranger for no fucking reason and now just want to go home because the game has gone.

From a televised point of view it’s just better IMO.

The abscense of crowd noise in NFL in particular has turned it into a game like basketball with all the points being scored, offence can hear all the play calls when playing away.

It is a massive factor not having fans there and I really like what it’s doing to the premier league.

Sheffield United got a first half penalty and took the lead against Liverpool, had Anfield been full and the crowd making feelings know on the challenge I doubt that would have been even looked at!

Harsh penalty to be fair.......

I was an actor for ten years.

You could always tell on the opening night who had true passion for their craft and their performances rose dramatically once in front of an audience. Other's didn't. Just delivered the performances they were giving in the rehearsal room.

Same with football, I'd imagine.

Interesting comments gents.

I'm sure we would have loved I mean loved being at Spurs last week. Whats the the thing my son says now. .. Limbs everywhere.

Makes me think how we would have played with that crowd dynamic there. Sure some players love the buzz, but equally your not having the best of games and the crowd turns, where you go.

I think players will get used to it and then with the crowd comming back.. pop corn as well it will take some time to adjust.

I worked with a bloke who was a prolific non league striker. Goal almost every other game for a decade and a half. By his own admission he had the skill and fitness to play at a higher level but he said once he realised people were watching and expecting him to do the business he felt the pressure and wobbled.


Must be the same even for many of the elite players.

There was a great interview with Antonio the other day talking about it. He said that they can all hear each other now on the pitch which they never did before. All the talking is probably making it easier and more organised.

He said it will be really odd going back to crowds again as they’ve all got used to it now. I also think the home crowds constant attacking of their own players sometimes really doesn’t help players do well.

I remember being at Arsenal once hearing grown men calling theo Walcott a cunt to his face every time her got near the touch line. I’m sure that did him the world of good! Fans really do make the difference but on both positive and negative ways.

Hopefully against Man City it makes a huge difference.

Given we have shipped 22 goals against them in the last 5 home games, and scored 1 with a full house, behind closed doors it may be a even contest and one we can win...............

I think overall it is having no fans is having an impact, maybe decisions are not going the way of big clubs as they normally do when you have thousands screaming for a penalty/red card, offside etc???? Even with VAR.

Just look at the current top 6 in the PL, maybe early days but only Liverpool 4th and Arsenal 6th represent the so called big 6, could be a very interesting season if this continues.

I've been banging on about this for ages. It's making a massive difference. We're now seeing who wants to play for the shirt rather than the adulation, players who'll put in that 100% effort when no one is watching?.

Micah Richards mentioned the other day that you're so much more focussed as a defender when you have tens of thousands of supporters ready to give you grief for a making a mistake.

As another poster said, presently it's a bunch of millionaires playing football against each other down the park.

In general terms, my theory is that the refs aren’t being influenced by the fans of the so called big teams. They seem to be giving much fairer decisions, instead, as a result.

I think that may be part of it, but the players look much fitter & bowen/fornals playing inside left/right is giving antonio much more support, hopefully it continues tomorrow. it will also be good to see benrahma when he gets on
